Why Coach Jung Jae-hoon chose KIA
It's an adventure and a challenge.
Coach Jung Jae-hoon told how he felt about taking on a new challenge at the KIA Tigers. KIA announced on the 26th that it has hired coach Chung as the pitching coach for the first division. He made his debut in the first team in 2003, recording 555 games, 35-44 losses, 139 saves, 84 holds, and an ERA of 3.14. He played as a must-win group and a finishing pitcher representing Doosan. It was only one season in 2015 that he had a professional career outside of Doosan. He headed to Lotte Giants as a reward player for FA pitcher Jang Won-jun and returned to Doosan in the second draft the following year.
An unexpected injury led him to take the path of a leader. He decided to retire in 2017 after rehabilitating from an injury to his forearm hit by a training ball in 2016, and started as a bullpen coach at Doosan in the 2018 season and took the path of a leader. For six seasons until this year, he has consistently contributed to the development of pitchers by moving between the first and second divisions.
When Lee Seung-yeop was appointed as the new manager in October last year, Chung led the first-tier pitchers. Then, he went down to the second division during the season to renew the atmosphere, and devoted himself to fostering until the end of the season. This year, Kia's general manager Shim Jae-hak offered a coaching position at a time when he thought he needed a turning point as he had been a leader for six years only in Doosan.

I thought I could personally challenge myself and gain experience. Coach Chung said, "It's an adventure and a challenge," but added, "I think I built a lot of friendship with the players when I was at Doosan, and I think I got along with each and every team member. If I go to KIA, I think I can get along well like that again. It only takes time, but if you treat him sincerely, you will be able to build up affection with players, coaches, and employees," he smiled.

Coach Chung said, "This year and last year, the team composition and various records are good, but I don't think we could produce the expected results because there were injuries to players and foreign pitchers didn't perform well. Looking at this year's pitching staff in Korea, the starting pitchers are young and good, and the bullpen is good. I think it's a good power if only foreign pitchers return without any problems," he said.
