FC Seoul Appoints Coach Kim Ki-dong
Coach Kim Ki-dong, who led Pohang in professional soccer and led the K-League 1st place and FA Cup this year, took the helm of FC Seoul.
Seoul officially announced that it has appointed Kim as the 15th head coach.
Coach Kim, who played for the National Merit currently Jeju and Pohang as a player and played in 501 games, has the second-most field player in the K League history, is also building a successful career as a leader.
He served as a coach for the national team under the age of 23 from 2013 to 2016 and as a head coach for Pohang from 2016 to 2019, and made his debut as a head coach in Pohang from 2019.
From 2019, his first year in office, head coach Kim led Pohang to the fourth place in the K League and moved it to the third place the following year.
Pohang finished ninth in the league in 2021, but finished second in the Asian Champions League, ranking third in the K League last year and second this year, keeping most of the top spots during Kim's tenure.
In particular, he won the FA Cup this year.
Coach Kim, who earned the modifier "motivation magic" as he was imprinted as a leader who showed leadership despite his lack of livelihood, received the K League 1 Coach of the Year Award, which is unusual for a third-place team coach in the 2020 season.
Seoul, which played the rest of the season under acting head coach Kim Jin-kyu after former head coach Ahn Ik-soo resigned in August, chose Kim as the new head coach to lead the rebound.
Seoul has only been in the bottom split for the last four consecutive seasons, falling behind to the Final B this season and finishing seventh, so it recruited head coach Kim at a time when it was in desperate need of a reputation recovery.
