Bangkok Coach, who lost the game against Jeonbuk

Bangkok United coach Tochawan Srippan mentioned that it is common for South Korean national soccer team coach Jurgen Klinsmann to watch the game.

Bangkok lost 2-3 in the final Group F match of the 2023/24 season of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League ACL against Jeonbuk Hyundai at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on the 13th. Wan-Chai scored first, but Moon Seon-min allowed a tie before the end of the first half and Lee Dong-jun lost consecutive points in the 31st and 33rd minutes of the second half. In the 40th minute of the second half, Longgrat Bhumichantuk recovered a goal, but failed to tie again.

Despite the loss, the team smoothly advanced to the round of 16 by ranking No. 1 in its group 4 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss with 13 points. This is the first time that the team will play in a Champions League tournament since its foundation. Jeonbuk ranks second in its group 4 wins, 2 losses, 12 points and has secured a berth to the round of 16, which is given to the top three teams among the second-ranked teams in its respective groups.

"We played a difficult game against Jeonbuk. We performed tactically well in the first 30 minutes, but it was difficult to overcome and it was a bad game in the 90 minutes. As they struggled with Jeonbuk's physicality and were of high quality, I tried to find opportunities while playing the game, but it was difficult. I had to admit that the opponent team was a good team and it was an honor to face Jeonbuk," Srippan said in an official press conference after the game.

When asked what improvements Bangkok, which will advance to the round of 16, said, "It was a good test for us. We gained a lot of experience against strong teams like Jeonbuk in the Asian stage. We will focus on enhancing the individual capabilities of each player while playing on the road and adapting tactically."

South Korea's national soccer team coach Klinsmann came to watch the game. South Korea is set to play Thailand in March and the third and fourth home-away games of the second preliminary round in Asia for the 2026 North and Central America Canada, U.S., and Canada World Cup.

Bangkok's national team also drew attention as it included several players who were on the Thai team. Goalkeeper Patiwat Kammai, Manuel Vihr, Sufan Tongsong and Nitipong Selanon participated in the match. Midfielder Poklaou Anan also drew attention.

"As far as I know, Klinsmann came to watch the Korean and Thai national teams. It's a normal matter, and I came to check on the Thai players. Thai players have shown great performance, and our players will adopt a concept that enhances their individual capabilities just like Jeonbuk players," Sri Lanka said.

Bangkok was on an equal footing with Jeonbuk with one win and one loss. Having advanced to the round of 16 for the first time since its foundation, Bangkok can meet K-League teams including the Pohang Steelers and Ulsan Hyundai again on the stage of the tournament.

"It was unexpected of us to make it to the round of 16," Sri Lanka's coach said. "We achieved our goal because we didn't expect to win the first place in our group at the beginning of the tournament. We will enjoy any match against Korea, Japan or China in the round of 16. Based on our experience in today's event, we will do our best in the next round." 안전놀이터 추천

"Most of Jeonbuk's players are good players. In particular, Park Jae-yong protected the ball ownership in the long ball based on his physical strength and distributed the ball," said Sri Lanka's coach, who assessed Jeonbuk's performance in the first and second half, "Jeonbuk's standards were higher than ours, and it motivated them to advance to the round of 16. It was also a home game. That's why I think the opponent team did a better job in the second half."
